Perhaps the most beautiful font I have encountered, Archer satisfies my desire for a fresh yet traditional face in the world of type. It is always difficult for me to pick a party in the debate between serif and sans-serif, both have their obvious benefits and downfalls. Archer provides the clarity and strength of a sans-serif, but the quick scanning quality of serifs. Hoefler & Frere-Jones inclusion of elements reminiscent of the traditional typewriter provide a beautiful quirky feeling that transcends time, at least for now. Arriving on the scene during a period of modernistic nostalgia, Archer fills the typographic niche too well, with the potential to be displayed in every tasteful antique/thrift store/boutique shop window just in time for spring.
